Elementary Guidance
DKE strives to provide resources for all parents, students and teachers to encourage success in all areas.
The tools below are used to help students manage and cope with emotions, feelings and moods. We encourage you to talk with your child about theses options and give them the opportunity to share how these resources may help them throughout the school day.
Emotional Coping Strategies
Strategy stations are used to help guide students when they need some additional focus time.
Distraction: draw, do a puzzle, squishy balls, pop its, read a book, color, listen to music
Movement: ride your bike, play outside, run, play basketball, jump rope, do jumping jacks, do push ups
Relaxation: yoga poses, take deep breaths, listen to music, take a nap, go for a walk
Thinking/Self Talk: positive self-talk “It’s ok”, “I can do this, I can do this”, “Everyone makes mistakes- keep trying”, “You’ve got this”
